Does the new Fresh Fruit Fruit2day rival?
In May this year, a new product was launched in the U.S. by the international company Hero / WhiteWave. Call Fruit2day, the fruit drink is intended to help busy people worldwide increase their consumption of fruit.
What is Fruit2day?
This is the introduction in Fruit2day website :
Undoubtedly, the fruit does wonders for your health.
Can not argue with that one Let's go ahead.:
But it is difficult to get your fill with control over lifestyle active.
Hmm. Apparently whoever wrote this has never heard of bananas.
There's a new way to eat fruit.
Unlike of chewing and swallowing, I guess.
Not that we have changed the fruit. We just found out that real dice up fruit into small pieces and add to the rich blend of all natural juice and puree tastes really, really good.
Yes, we know. It's called a smoothie. Or to get all of Luxury me a fruit soup.
Therefore, drinking, SIP, chew and enjoy two servings of fruit like never before.
Oh, boy … I can not wait …: roll:
Okay … Enough with the sarcasm
The material may not be really that bad. I mean it's real fruit, Right? And, like the label says: "No added sugar."
And I'm all for increasing consumer awareness and encourage people to eat more fruit.
But Fruit2day really compete with the quality of the nutrients, taste, cost, or the portability of fresh fruit?
Juices
If you check out what is really in any of the four flavors Fruit2day, you will notice that most of the ingredients are the juices fruit.
Here is the list of ingredients for Strawberry Orange:
- chopped strawberries
- apple juice concentrate
- white grape juice from concentrate
- orange juice concentrate with pulp
- mashed banana
- pineapple chunks and puree
- Aronia berry juice concentrate
- acerola juice concentrate
- natural flavor
9 ingredients, 5 of what are the juices.
The problem with fruit juice is that the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals lost in the process. This includes vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium and fiber.
And why just need fiber?:
Because the fiber, and because the valuable components of foods have not been lost through processing, natural plant foods that cause anxiety filled and no abnormal physiological or hormonal imbalances.
The consumption of fruits and vegetables with intact fiber also decreases the rate of absorption of glucose, avoiding spikes in blood sugar.
Side note: The above quotation is eat to live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Despite being advertised as a diet book, eat to live is actually more of a collection of studies Scientists point to the positive effects of a diet without animal products. And while Dr. Fuhrman advocates eating cooked grains, legumes and vegetables also encourages unlimited amounts of raw fruits and vegetables in the diet.
Pasteurization
To have any kind of Fruit2day shelf life without preservatives, most of the ingredients must be pasteurized.
Thus, all fruit juices are heat treated.
And as we know, the heat = loss of nutrients.
From concentrate
And speaking of the loss of nutrients, What about the fact that fruit juices from concentrate include?
A juice "not from concentrate" is the first spin, pasteurized then, and finally packaged. A juice "from concentrate" has an extra step. The water is extracted juice and then added back before pasteurization and packaging.
More steps, oxidation, and the loss of nutrients, and a set of cheaper quality.
Natural flavor?
The four flavors have "natural flavor" listed last on the list of ingredients. While I am sure this is something relatively innocent, yet be nice to know what exactly this flavor.
You better be careful … my "raw foodist" is showing. 
Cost
The price of 2 bottles (4 servings worth) of Fruit2day is $ 3.75. That's about $ 0.94 per half-cup of fruit.
I bought organic bananas at $ 0.65 per pound, local cantaloupe for $ 1.50 per pound, organic Valencia oranges for $ 1.15 per pound …
I have even purchased locally, pesticide-free, absolutely delicious peaches for $ 0.75 per pound.
Need I say more?
Portability
As mentioned earlier, the big selling point here is that Fruit2day is extremely portable. You just grab a bottle and go!
But I ask, can not take a banana and go, or grab an apple and go, or take an orange and go?
Heck, even melon is very portable! Only a cut in advance, stored in plastic containers in portions in the refrigerator, and take other along your spirit.
Taste
I have not tried this same material. I do not dare to spend nearly $ 4 in four servings of fruit miserable.
And fruit juice is not exactly heat-treated raw now is it?
The final verdict
Fruit2day simply not up to it. Sure, it's the fruit. But not all, nor is it new or not completed.
And as for the ability to Fruit2day to convince the masses to eat more fruit, I am skeptical. I'm not a miser, but I can not see the average Joe Shmoe pay $ 3.75 for two small bottles of thick fruit smoothie.
Not when you can get a Milky Way bar for under $ 2.
But what do you think? Fruit2day is a worthy competitor to the fresh fruit or just the sad remnants of his opponent full of nutrients?
