The Golden Jubilee is currently the largest cut diamond in the world. Since 1908, the Cullinan I, also known as the Great Star of Africa, had held the title, which changed after the 1985 discovery of a large brown diamond of 755.5 carats (151 grams) in soil blue prolific Premier Mine South Africa, the diamond was later reduced to a weight of 545.67 carats (109.13 g).
Premier Mine was also the origin of the Cullinan diamond in 1905, and other personalities such as the Taylor-Burton in 1966 and the Centennial in 1986.
The "Unnamed Brown" as the Golden Jubilee was known first, was considered a sort of ugly duckling by most. It was given to Gabriel Tolkowsky by De Beers for the purpose of testing and special cutting tools methods that were developed for use under the flawless D-color ("color") Centennial. These tools and methods had never been tested before, and the "nameless Brown" seemed the perfect guinea pig, would be a great loss if something goes wrong.
To the surprise of all concerned, what resulted was a diamond, yellow-brown in a fire rose cushion cut, overcoming Cullinan I by 15.37 carats (3.07 g). The stone remained virtually unknown to the outside world, as Sister Golden Jubilee, Centenary, had already been accepted and promoted to announce the centenary celebrations De Beer in 1988.
The unnamed diamond had previously been brought to Thailand by the Thai Diamond Manufacturers Association to be exhibited in Chamber Investment Exhibition in Laem Chabang Thailand. There was a queue a mile long to see the diamond, which outshone all other exhibits.
While the current whereabouts of the Centenary are unknown, the Golden Jubilee is known to have been purchased from De Beers by a group led by Henry Ho of Thailand in 1995. Diamond was presented to Pope John Paul II at the Vatican for papal blessing. Which was also blessed by the Buddhist Supreme Patriarch and the Supreme Imam Thailand. The Diamond Jubilee Golden (Thai:) was named by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and was given in honor of the anniversary of his coronation 50. Originally scheduled to ride the Golden Jubilee in the royal scepter. A further plan was to be mounted on a royal seal.
The Golden Jubilee Diamond was shown in 59-the story of Henry Ho Jewelry Trade Center Bangkok, Central Department Store in Lad Prao (Bangkok), Thailand, and internationally in Basel (Switzerland), Borsheims in Omaha, USA (Owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Warren Buffett) and Gleims Jewelers in Palo Alto, USA. You are now in the Royal Palace in Thailand, as part of the crown jewels.
