Haviland Blue
What do the different labels on the back of my Johann Haviland China Blue crown. All Bavarian some astricts?
some astricted one and some have two other bars on each side. Each say Bavaria, Germany Thailand
China stamps indicating they were made. The manufacturer's name will in most of them. Modern elements must include the country of origin (International trade laws and agreements.) Some may also have the design or the employer's name, or a code for it. hand painted items also often have a code for the painter, the rest is put in with a stamp. Ancient China often not only had scratched marks, stamps. Some of the things cheaper in bulk also lack a proper seal. In particular, China white table often is not sealed, but the information required in the mold, so it comes out as "recorded" on the subject. This could be filled with enamel, it seems there almost nothing there. greets says Bavaria, Germany, so that is where it was. Johann Haviland is the name of the factory. Johann was the son of Charles, an American who created a ceramic in France (where the clay was suitable for the quality I wanted) for table for the U.S. market. Johann branched ceramics in Bavaria (another area of the clay appropriate). Both companies went through many changes owenrship. The name of Johann Haviland Rosenthal is currently owned by another famous German ceramic also. The bars and asterisks could indicate the lots or production line goods coming. Blue Garland pattern was first made in 1970, but suspended in year 80 (when the company changed hands again). Be of good quality and not for "every day" use, many pieces still exist. Replacements for broken quite easily available at reasonable prices, if you need to complete a series.
