Depression Glass Candy dishes
Depression glass candy dish made by eighteen different glass companies. Of the most popular one hundred fifty depression glass patterns, almost half have depression glass candy dishes in their collection. The Paden City Glass Company and the Hocking Glass Company (later Anchor-Hocking Glass Company) created the most – with twelve different models of each dish sweet. Other companies that produce multiple patterns glass candy dish were: Jeannette Glass Company, with seven different models, the Imperial Glass Company and U.S. Glass Company each made four patterns, and the Westmoreland Glass Company manufactures three different models.
Approximately ninety different depression glass candy dish is made in a variety of styles, shapes and colors. Of these, only fifteen were without cover. Therefore, most contain two pieces of glass – a top and base. The caps are manufactured in various styles, ranging from flat shapes to cone shapes. Styles the foundations were quite different too. Some bases are flat or round, many had a high pedestal, and others were of three legs. Several were made with two handles, and around a dozen were made, either as a dish in two parts or a plate of three parts. Sweet dishes are produced in a wide variety of ways as well. Round or square shapes were the most common heart while octagonal shapes and clover tended to be more unusual. Although the rainbow of colors can be found, more and colors were pink, green and crystal.
Nearly forty percent of the patterns of depression glass candy dish has several different styles in the same pattern. Two or three different styles for each model are the most common. For example, the pattern of twisted optical Imperial Glass Company has five different sweet dishes.
Two sweet dishes were reproduced. The candy dish at the Princess pattern was reproduced in the colors of amber and cobalt blue, the colors were not produced originally. Although the Princess pattern was reproduced in the colors pink and green, the color tones played do not match the original color tones. In addition, the quality of glass reproduction was much harsher than the original bubbly glass. The candy dish in the Sharon pattern was also played. There are three ways to discern Sharon plate reproduction of an original sweet. A candy dish Sharon's original base pedestal is three and a quarter inch in diameter, while a reproduction base is only three inches wide. Then measure the visible glass circle in the bottom center of the lid. An original must measure two inches in diameter, while a reproduction measured half an inch wide. Finally, the quality of play is raw glass and molded poorly compared to an original dish Sharon Depression Glass Candy.
