The honor of having the most expensive painting ever sold Vincent Van Gogh will.
We all know the story of Van Gogh interesting life – How to sell a single painting in his life, how he cut his own ear and sent it a prostitute, his own life in an asylum – but the history of this painting is almost as interesting.
The # 1 Most expensive painting in history is a portrait Dr. Van Gogh, Doctor Gachet, painted in 1890.
In 1990 he sold for an astronomical sum of 82.5 million!
That alone makes it interesting – but there is more to the story.
The painting is one of them knows that Van Gogh did of Dr. Gachet. They were made at the request of the physician, in an effort to treat Van Gogh blues.
This painting was completed just 8 weeks before Van Gogh committed suicide and was not sold at that time.
Painting, subsequently passed through the hands of several collectors before being acquired in 1938 by the Nazis Supreme duende, Hermann Goering.
After his death it was acquired Kramarsky the family were those that sold at Christie's in 1990.
But the fun does not stop there.
The person who bought the most expensive painting in history, Japanese businessman, Ryoei Saito also purchased the second most expensive painting in history, Renior Moulin de la Galette is $ 78.1 million – just 4 days later!
Since the crash of the Japanese economy and record in mid-1990, both the painting was recovered and currently owned by a bank.
One last interesting fact: Vincent Van Gogh painting has 3 in the 10 most expensive painting ever sold. The other two are Lilies (which sold for $ 49 million and is ranked # 
and a self-portrait ($ 65 million and # 4.)
