The History of the Piggy Bank
Save money, or treasure, is a common idea that has been around since near the beginning of time. Adults and children are forced to maintain even in the lowest value of the coins in a safe place. Many people have a childhood memory like to fill his piggy bank with coins and money of others. Pure pleasure to the eye of a child to drop coins into the slot and hear sound in the belly of the cute little pig is priceless. While many people share a common knowledge of purpose and ownership of a bank, very few people take into account a pig is used to represent the saving of coins and money of others. How did this tradition of saving and putting money into a pig come into existence?
The origin of the money stored in a container in the form of pigs actually derives from an error in terms of language did years ago. The whole development of the bank is based on the misuse of the word. It all began around the fifteenth century in the Middle Ages. During this period time, some household utensils instead of metal, were made of a cheaper type of clay called pygg.
Many homes had bottles and other storage containers from the economic pygg clay. As time moved forward and went to the eighteenth and nineteenth century, the tradition of saving money in a jar pygg was still very much alive.
