Munich: 2006 World Cup Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony of World Cup 2006 will be held in Munich on Friday June 9, 2006. The Also opening match will be played in Munich on June 9 in the newly built stadium in Munich Fröttmaning.
Munich has much more to offer than football:
Munich is the capital of Bavaria, formally a kingdom in its own right. And some of the buildings and their styles still seem to reflect this, with palaces and architecture appropriate to the main city capital of a federal state.
Popular with travelers, mainly because of its global festival beer famous Oktoberfest, Munich has many traditional wineries of German beer, where large amounts of local beer consumed in large ceramic cups known as "Steins." These are often decorated with images of hunting scenes and surprisingly large mustachioed men (!) Which seems to be drinking copious amounts beer.
A good way to enjoy a cheap meal is to buy food from a street vendor or made pastry (which seem to be everywhere in Munich), and eat in a beer garden. This is completely acceptable to the establishment, as long as you're drinking your beer! And it makes a good alternative and cheaper to eat at a restaurant.
Munich is also home to BMW the manufacturer of luxury cars and you'll see a surprising number of these on the streets. Possibly due to the fact, they like to encourage their employees to drive cars they do with great discounts and incentives.
Munich is a university town and has a large and lively student population that adds to the festive atmosphere of this lively and interesting city.
The travel infrastructure is very efficient (that's Germany, after all!). With
S-Bahn (commuter and suburban trains), U-Bahn (metro), buses and trams all clean, tidy and generally run in time.
Munich should see:
• Deutsches Museum: A great museum with large exhibition areas, covering about 55,000 square meters for natural science and history and application of technology. It also contains an extensive library collections of modern and historic books related to the subject,
• St. Michaels Church: Built by Duke William V, this Renaissance church is decorated final burial place for more than 40 members The Wittelsbach dynasty's royal family. The church has no tower or steeple. When they were building the tower was destroyed and was regarded as bad luck to rebuild again.
• English Garden: The "English Garden" is one of the largest urban parks in Europe. It is a fascinating place for a day and also a quick trip around the world, containing only foundation established in a German interpretation of English style, but also a Chinese pagoda, a teahouse Japanese and a Greek temple!
• Marienplatz: A large square in central Munich. Its main attraction is the Gothic town hall with its "Glockenspiel". At 11 am and 12 am every morning the bells and a display controller high on the walls of the building represents a jousting tournament in honor of the duke's wedding followed by a WilliamV medieval dance.
• The Olympic Park, built for the 1972 Olympic Games has many attractions, including the Olympic Village, now bright painted individual accommodation for students and visitors of the main field. The massive tower has a revolving restaurant with amazing and if you do not like heights, points alarming sight (!) in Munich.
• Klostergasthof Andechs: A monastery unlike anything I've ever been! If you've been to those shown. In the foothills of the Alps to the monks a beer good food and strong beer and serve tasty and reasonably priced. Sit back and enjoy the wonderful views of the mountains.
• Städtische Galerie, Munich One of the major art galleries and formally the home of local artist Franz von Lenbach has an extensive collection century works of art 19 and 20, including "Blue Racer" group of artists which the painter Kandinsky was a member.
Compared to many destinations of Munich is a very safe city and not be bothered by street vendors or traders to buy. Everything is well organized and courteous and many Germans speak very good English. It is always a lively place with many bars clubs and restaurants the best time to visit is undoubtedly late September to early October. That's when The beer festival is on the side and part of this interesting city comes to the fore. Munich is a very noisy, busy and interesting, but fascinating and fun.
