"I'm too young to pick up the dishes!" Yes, those famous last words left my mouth shortly after moving to Germany. I saw things everywhere – Decoration of the walls in the house of a friend, full of food at a potluck meeting, which sell for a place in the outside the store online. Then he uttered these nine words, what little he may never regretted ever since, "What do you think about purchasing some Polish Pottery? "It was over. We went home with five different pieces that afternoon, but it was just the beginning – patterns countless, every imaginable color, and lots of shapes and sizes – was that not only was I young, I had everything.
I took my first Ceramics business trip to Poland a few months later with the USO – you know, you spend a crazy 30 hours in a state of the ceramic-induced, that-doesn't-matter-what-more-than-passing euphoria. Everyone loaded into a large tour bus at 9 pm on Friday night around 4:30 am, the shopping madness begins. Shop owners know when buses arrive and get out of bed early to make extra money. Each store is a career – not only against his new friends on the bus, but against that bus next time you have to stay in front. Dinner plates, dessert plates, coffee cups and saucers, plates, baking dishes, tea sets, salt and pepper – whatever you need for your kitchen or dining room. Recently, I've seen ceramic items that can be used outside the kitchen, such as decorations wall, pots, and some rude I will not mention … Some people have one, the beloved pattern, while others, like me, mix and match for an eclectic look (Which are also easier to replace if, God forbid, something breaks.) One brief stop for lunch goulash to keep your energy level and follow forward.
The trip is also a learning experience, not only the possibility of losing control. In search of the ceramic, try and buy only "Category 1" items. The bracket indicates the level of defects and therefore the higher the better. Category 1 pottery is oven safe to 425 degrees F and dishwasher (Although they do not trust him … not even trust my husband to hand wash it … if you saw my collection of glasses, you'd understand). Category 2 is safe for the oven to 325 degrees F and 'probably' dishwasher safe. Category 3 or higher should be used only to serve. Also, if you find "Unikat" label on the bottom, the pattern is original to the store where I buy less. The golden rule of Poland and decoration pottery in Poland is: if you find a part / model you like, buy it there! You probably will not be able to find the exact same piece elsewhere place so if you can bear the idea of the potential loss of a few dollars compared to getting that special piece, do it!
At about 5 pm, it's time return. The bus is packed, the luggage space under the bus are as full as can be, and every bump in the road that hit produces a worried "whoop" buyers exhausted. The USO Stuttgart automatically gives each two seats and at that moment, you are saying a silent prayer for the benefit ingenious. To republish around the early hours of 3 am and just have the power to conjure the white lie to your spouse in the amount of * really * spent. His body is screaming with a mixture of exhaustion and cramps in the bus, but worth it! Especially when it moves back to the states – watch QVC and you can find what I want say. The other day, silly, smiling ladies were selling a dessert plate for $ 42!
On a final note, I recommend going with a group to Poland instead only you and the family. bus trips, but tight and we must acknowledge that the program groups, it is better than getting your car stolen (which happens a little – and how easy you think will be at the track in a former eastern bloc countries?). I've heard that many of these cars lifting stories – a woman brought her husband along to see the car … did – I saw them, led to the right of the parking lot. I had a friend tell me that just going to drive your car to Poland if her husband goes and who drives the car circles in the parking lot while shopping. I've also seen small groups, whether friends or organized by the spouse of military resources, hire a bus chartered and driver. Each release in a part of the bill. Not only are leaving the driving to someone else, you are buying peace of mind. More Better safe than sorry!
