RAM advice needed on PC upgrade.?
I inherited an old computer (1998 vintage) with 64 MB of RAM, I increased the RAM. Opening the box I can see three slots DIMM / SIMM. Only one slot is occupied (by a SIMM), it says on the SIMM: Infinity HYS64V8300GU-8-B SDRAM 8Mx64 PC100-222-620 B2 80 303 64 Mb, Sync, 100MHz, CL2 Which of these numbers are important to know to buy more memory? I have seen the reference to the PC100 memory, 133 in stores.
PC100 memory is definitely to continue with that. While the board may accept a single stick of 128MB, you can be sure, so just must use the same size (64 MB), which was already installed. Obviously a machine of this vintage is running Windows 98 (or Linux), so that 128 MB or 192 MB of memory is fine. XP requires a minimum of 256 MB to run decently, so forget about running on this old. Hardware recommend looking on Ebay, computer shops are not 9 years old 64 MB memory stick on the shelves, there is no demand for it:) Here are a couple of auctions that look good:
