Vintage Plastic Jewelry
Vintage jewelry from precious metals and glass or plastic, sometimes called costume jewelry, if elegant, expensive. No matter what material is used in manufacturing is, if it is going to cost money. vintage retro plastic jewelry to be cheap and usually can be found at thrift stores for a few pennies. The first pieces of jewelry bought plastic were made form a material invented by the Belgian chemist, Dr. Leo Baekeland around 1908 he called Bakelite. Bakelite not easily conduct electricity or heat and therefore it was widely used in the manufacture of electrical products. It can be molded into bizarre shapes, perfect for the period and probably more famous for the manufacture of casings of the radio. Once it was even considered as a substitute for the metal in the production of the penny.
Lots of jewelry is manufactured in this hard brittle substance, especially large, colorful clips. Considered the first "costume" designer often copy Jewel of the time from more expensive materials. The designers quickly realized the potential and huge quantities of cheap plastic jewelry appeared on the market in the U.S. and Europe in bold colorful designs. Brightly colored vintage accessories such as compacts, lipstick, cigarette holders, sunglasses and even handbags were made also on film for an audience avid.
Lucite or Plexiglas in 1933 hit the market and quickly incorporated into the design of jewelry, often mixed with celluloid or Bakelite for effect. Brooches made with molded Lucite cameos overlapping film were very popular and easy to find in vintage and retro shops today. Some Lucite jewelry, bracelets, brooches and pendants reverse was carved, often with naturalistic flowers appear real life, or not painted to look like etched glass.
Whatever old plastic jewelry is made from is usually exciting and colorful and if you're lucky, you can still buy at relatively low prices. But it is becoming increasingly popular as young people reject antiques. dark brown furniture, silver, old paintings and antique jewelry are not fresh. Young people small apartments are filling up their bright light vintage and retro, Scandinavian design, contemporary art and backlight colors. They eat and drink vintage and retro or Ikea table and collecting vintage and retro clothing and jewelry. More stores are opening to serve this new generation of housewife and prices are rising rapidly. But it is still possible to find a bargain – good hunting.
