Table lamps in Wedgwood Jasper
The name "Wedgwood" is probably one of the most famous associated with porcelain and ceramics in the western world.
Josiah Wedgwood was born in 1730 into a family of potters at Burslem in Staffordshire, the great English pottery center. Wedgwood was known as a man full of new ideas, a man who experienced tirelessly to develop and refine their products.
One of the most outstanding achievements Wedgwood was his careful preparation of his famous jasper. Jasper would be best described as hard, fine-grained sandstone, and was introduced in 1774, but it was not until 1779, Wedgwood was able to successfully produce the plates and glasses in the exquisite range of pastel colors we know today, as Wedgwood Jasper.
Wedgwood years of trial and error with the colors and cooking techniques, led to the wide variety of colors we know today. Colors like sage green, yellow, purple and blue famous pale, all derived from metallic oxides discovered by Wedgwood.
To fully understand and appreciate the position of a man and Wedgwood in 18 century world, we must understand a bit of "how society worked."

Josiah Wedgwood died in 1795 and registered in his monument in the church Stoke parish are the words
"He made the English ceramics industry a rude and despicable factory in an elegant art and an important part national trade. "
